Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Pakistani troops opened speculative fire on Indian Army posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday night. According to military sources, the Indian Army responded swiftly and effectively, ensuring there were no casualties on the Indian side.
“There were small arms firing incidents at some places across the LoC initiated by Pakistan last night. The firing was effectively responded to,” sources confirmed. The nature of the firing suggests a provocation tactic, possibly to test India’s response amid growing pressure on Pakistan internationally after the Pahalgam massacre.
The exchange of fire is the latest in a string of developments that have worsened the already tense relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. India has firmly blamed Pakistani elements for orchestrating the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, including tourists and a Nepali national.
India has launched a series of stringent diplomatic and strategic actions in response to the attack. These include expelling Pakistani military attaches, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, cancelling all visas issued to Pakistani nationals, and shutting down the Attari land transit point with immediate effect.
The situation at the LoC remains tense, but under control, say officials. Indian forces are on high alert, prepared for any further escalation or misadventures from across the border.
With Pakistan denying any official involvement in the terror attack while continuing its aggressive posture along the LoC, Indian defence and diplomatic establishments are maintaining a no-tolerance approach towards any further provocations.
